Scientific research benefiting from biotechnology is central to the development of nations seeking improvement of people's livelihoods. IBSAR Is conducting basic research that is relevant, of high quality, and involving a multidisciplinary approach (physical, chemical, biological, social, cultural and economic).

In this respect, basic research activities to identify medical and para-medical values of natural extracts and molecules are a core component of IBSAR research agenda. Hence, the Center has received major funding from private investors to conduct basic research activities focusing on native plants and their potential medicinal properties.

The aim of this specific project is to identify natural products related to cancer. The overall objective is to use natural products to promote drug discovery and economic development. Therefore, our overall objective is to inventory the medicinal plants of Lebanon , to promote conservation of these resources and to search for plant compounds as potential candidates for drug development.
